The company was a pioneer in manufacturing detonators in India and slurry-based explosives globally, serving the mining, infrastructure, and defense sectors. Currently, GOCL is shifting focus away from hazardous operations such as commercial explosives and energetics, moving toward EMS and realty. It is in the final stages of disinvesting its explosives and energetics divisions to reduce risks related to urban encroachment and to improve capital allocation toward less hazardous and more scalable businesses. GOCL is part of the Hinduja Group, a conglomerate with interests in automotive, IT, media, entertainment and communications, infrastructure projects, oil and specialty chemicals, power, real estate, and healthcare. The Hinduja Group employs around 200,000 people globally.
